Reports
Ottery Firegirls 1 Brixham 5 Report: Greg Layzells The Ottery Firegirls under 12s were home to Bixham on Sunday. This was the first time we had met this South Devon team and yet again the strength of these Torbay teams shone through. In the first half we started out holding our formation and looked the better side, but then with defender Lara Feast getting injured we had to change the formation. From that point on the girls seemed to loose their positions and Brixham capitalised on our dilemma. By half time we were 3 – 0 down. After the break and our minutes silence for remembrance day the girls started with renewed vigour and scored with a good goal from Zoe Packer, but again our discipline left us and out of position players let the guard down with bad results the final score was 5 – 1 to Brixham. The girl of the match was Charlotte Taylor who has become the new team goalkeeper who could not be blamed for the goals as without her the score would have been a lot worse.
Ottery Firegirls u12s 1 Kingskerswell 6 Report: Greg Layzells The Ottery Firegirls under 12’s played home to a very strong Kingskerswell side who have joined up with players from the disbanded Torbay Colts, but still this was not to dampen the enthusiasm of these firegirls. This was the home leg of the league cup. They started well with confidence and enthusiasm but halfway through the first half the Kingskerswell scored against the run of play, but the Firegirls fought back but again were broken through to make it 2 – 0 this seemed to really lift the firegirls and they were the team on top and scored a good goal through Deryn Spencer to make it 1-2. After the halftime break there was a lot of end to end play with the Firegirls coming close on several occasions. With 10 minutes to go Kingskerswell scored two quick goals which seemed to knock the stuffing out of the Firegirls and the floodgates opened and the final score was 6-1. the score flattered Kingskerswell as apart from the last ten minutes the Firegirls had the majority of the play but could not put the ball in the back of the net.
Sunday 23rd September 07 Report: Sam Willis Ottery Firegirls 0 Kingskerswell Colts 7 It
was a 10:30 kick off for the firegirls U12’s first game this season against a
strong looking kingskerswell colt’s team. The Firegirls started brightly
looking to attack the colts defence, aided by the skills of Joleyn Spencer,
Deryn Spencer, Abby Cartwright and Jessica Jenkins. This good spell lasted for
just under 10 minutes when a colt’s player broke through and put a goal past
Zoe Packer who put up a brave performance in goal after suffering a hand injury.
After this goal the girls did not give up and battled hard for an equaliser,
however this was not to be the case. Despite hard fought defences performances
from Sammy Layzell and Lara Feast the opposition managed to score another two
before the half time. At the interval changes were made to the team with Ebony
Lacey going in goal for the injured Zoe Packer, and Ella Khaliq lining up in
defence in the place of Sammy Layzell who was carrying a leg injury. Once again
the team started attacking brightly and could have had a couple of good chances
if not for a determined colt’s defence. However it was not to be the firegirls
day and after the opposition scored a further 4 goals the final whistle blew. I
wish to say well done to all the girls who took part for giving 100%. Which is
especially good as it was the opening fixture of the new season. If the same
level of determination is shown in the remaining fixtures then there’s going
to be some happy players at the end of the season. I would also wish to thank
Richard Jenkins for refereeing the game at such short notice. |
