West Exe Athletic 0 Ottery St Mary 2

Report: Dave Melia

A number of goalmouth scrambles, in the first half,
made for an exciting game to watch. Ottery defended
bravely and after some hard work from James Whales,
Nat Pohl finished with a lovely, long-range shot, to reward
the team for their effort. A few more nail-biting
moments before half time, but they held on.
Ottery were more settled in the second half and
created some good chances while Brendan White in goal
controlled his area well. More determined play down
the left, from James, settled the game as he
looped a shot over the opposition goalkeeper. Great
spirited play by all the lads who showed their delight
by showering coach Geoff after the game.
Final score: West Exe Athletic 0- Ottery 2

26/01/08

Ottery St Mary 3  Broadclyst 3

This home game played away saw an ever improving
Ottery team dominate the first half. The lads played
close together and moved the ball around well with
resulting goals. Tom Melia passed well from defence to
Terry Marles to lob the goalkeeper for the first and another
good pass allowed James Whales to score the second.
Just before half time a free kick wasn't dealt with
and allowed Broadclyst back in the game.
Ottery, for some reason, lost discipline in the
beginning of the second half and to the faithful
followers' surprise, saw Broadclyst take the lead.
Ottery began to believe in themselves again and scored
a third goal with Nat Pohl creating a space for Terry to
slot in. A special mention to all three goalkeepers(
two from Ottery and one from Broadclyst) who pulled
off important saves to keeep the match a draw -3 all.

Heavitree 1 OtterySt Mary 3

This rearranged match against high -flying Heavitree
started on a low as Ottery could only russle-up 10
match-fit players with Jonny Golder making his debut as
goalkeeper. Heavitree very sportingly offered to play
10 team members as well. The Ottery lads surprised
everyone as they stormed forward from the first
whistle and showed great attacking play scoring two
goals from a very determined Terry Marles and Nat Pohl. After a
lapse Heavitree scored but Ottery came back scoring
another goal, direct from a corner, Michael Bell being the
marksman.
Half time finished 3-1 to Ottery who might have tired
in the second half but showed great spirit defending
extremely well as a team and also creating a number of
chances in attack. The lads were well worn out after a
long game without changes but it was worth the effort
and may cost coach Geoff, a few bob in promised
rewards.

Sidmouth 3 Ottery St Mary 8

The Ottery lads showed great spirit as they fought back three time from being a goal behind. The first half was a tight even game ending 2-2. Sidmouth surprised Ottery at the start of the second half and took the lead, but this was the end of their challenge, as Ottery took control of the match and were run away winners in the end.

On form Nat Pohl and Terry Marles scored four and three goals, respectively, but goal of the match went to Josh meek with a superb long range shot which looped over the hapless Sidmouth keeper.

Lympstone U12s 9 - Ottery U12s 1

The scoreline certainly did not reflect on the superb
effort made by the Ottery lads and the first 20
minutes saw a very even game with good attacking play
from both teams. Ottery were unlucky to go one goal
down, but a very well worked goal put them two behind.
Another unlucky break saw Ottery 3 nil down in the
last kick of the first half.
In the second half, Lympstone showed why they are near
the top of the league, as they piled on the pressure
and scored another two. Nat Pohl got one back shortly after
with some very determined play, but in the next
attack, poor defending let in a header from a short
corner. Ottery didn't react and were overrun towards
the end conceding two more goals.

Report by Dave Melia

 Ottery U12s 2 - Crediton Saints U12s 6

Unfortunately the slippery pitch played its part as
the first shot from Crediton put them into an early
lead. Ottery were soon on top of the game as James
Whales scored an excellent goal after good passing
from his teammates. Ottery continued to pressurise but
were unable to convert the pressure into goals and
just before half-time let in a narrow -angled shot
 from the Saints.
Ottery's heads were down for most of the second half,
and steadily Crediton increased the score, with 4 more
goals through simple organized play. A good shot from
Joe Blackmore towards the end gave Ottery their second goal: a
 team playing below their capabilities.

Bradninch 2 Ottery St Mary 11

Ottery U 12s were away to Bradninch in the first round
of the Exeter Friendly League Cup, and got away to a
fine start. Quick play with smooth passing sent them
into a 6-0 lead. They relaxed a little then and let
the Bradnich centre forward score twice before they
took coontrol of the game again, scoring another five
goals. Plenty of scorers they were too: Joe Blackmore, Terry Marles(3),
Nat Pohl(2), Josh Meek(2), James Whales, Connor Lovering and Tom Norris. An
excellent performance from all the boys.

Report: Geoff Webber.

Ottery St Mary 7 Central Scorpions 4

Ottery under 12s were well warmed up on a frosty morningas they raced into a 4-0 lead in the first quarter of the match, Very determined play saw Nat Pohl score two goals and make a pass to set up terry Marles who's shot was unstoppable. oe Blackmore scored a 4th goal from yet another great shot. Central Scorpions didn't give up and attacked down the flanks, scoring two goals before half time,

From the second half kick-off the Scorpions kept up the pressure scoring directly from the start and another great strike came off the crossbar. Nervy moments followed as Scorpions were right back in the game but Nat Pohl carried his great effort to set up Micheal Bell to score a goal, which eased the pressure and then settled it with a well-earned third goal from another great shot. Another exelent Ottery effort Well done!

Pinhoe Lightening 7 Ottery St Mary 3

It was a special treat for Ottery U-12s to play on a
completely flat pitch ,with the public watching from
the stand at Exeter arena, as they looked forward to
the first win of the season. But, as in other matches,
the opposition were more disciplined from the start
and popped in two very quick goals , both from the
right wing crossed behind the defence. Ottery woke up
and a great shot into the corner of the goal by
striker Nat Pohl saw them back in the game. Short-lived it
was as Pinhoe broke through twice more to score before
half-time, though Pinhoe saved a scoring chance off
 the goal-line.
The second half started as the first, as basic
mistakes let Pinhoe increase their lead to five goals.
Ottery pressed again and Nat scored another fine goal
only to see Pinhoe score their seventh goal from a
header, without being challenged. Ottery didn't give
up and Michael Bell made his dad proud with a superb
individual goal scored at an acute angle.

Report: Dave Melia

Broadclyst 3  Ottery St Mary 1

A lively start by both teams saw some fine defending by Ottery' s goalkeeper, Aaron Webber and centre back Josh Meek. But Broadclyst kept up the pressure and after 10 minutes scored a fortunate goal as a long shot bounced high over the Ottery goalkeeper.  0-1 Ottery's heads went down and Broadclyst struck again quickly with a cross goal shot.0-2.

It wasn't long though before Ottery were back in it after a goalmouth scramble was hit into the net by Joe Welsman. 1-2. Ottery kept up the pressure on the opposing team up to half-time but also had to thank their goalkeeper for two more fine saves.

The second half saw Ottery attacking well but not taking advantage of some fine chances and as a draw seemed likely Broadclyst broke away. The goalkeeper managed to palm out a fine save only to see the ball stroked into the net. 1-3.  Hard work by both teams up to the end saw out a fine game.
