Report: James Hudson Ottery St Mary 4 v 5 Okehampton AET
Harris Cup
Before this game Ottery were short on players but the night before they had some inspirational news that Blair Charlton was able to play back from injury and Daniel Loader their inspirational centre back was able to play. This gave them the extra confidence that they needed. Ottery flew out of the blocks, Sam had two one on one’s and made the keeper pull off two saves, but the third time that Sam went through he kept his composure and dinked the ball over the goal keeper to find the back of the net. Ottery were all over them, but then straight from kick off Okehampton had a rare attack and they were level, then just before half time the Okehampton winger crossed the ball and there was a rare mix up in defence and their striker had a simple tap in. Ottery went in 2-1 down at half time. At half time Ottery changed their formation and put another striker on. Ottery went after Okehampton having the belief there were more goals in this game. Sam went close twice before Ben went through but got brought down by the last defender, surely the player had to be sent off but Ottery were only given a free kick. Dan Jewell wanted it but Ben was adamant he was going to take it. He took two steps back and then stuck it in the top corner. Ottery were level! But two minutes later Okehampton had a corner the ball was crossed in and an Ottery player clearly handled the ball and a penalty was given. The Okehampton striker stepped up, kept his cool, and stuck it in the bottom corner. Ottery kept their belief and with a minute to go Ben raced through on goal and got clattered by the advancing goal keeper, the ball rolled to Sam who was following up and put the ball into an empty net. Ottery had equalised with the last kick of the 90minutes. During the brake we bandaged Ben’s knee up and he was ready for extra time. Light was fading and no one fancied penalties. Ottery drew first blood in extra time. There was a neat move through the midfield, Sam raced on to a through ball and fired the ball into the roof of the net. It was Sam’s hatrick and it was the first time in the game Ottery were in the lead, more chances came and went for Ottery. Ottery went into half time of extra time 4-3 up. Ottery were holding their own until out of the blue the Okehampton midfielder hit a 25yard volley straight into the back of the net. With a minute to go the tired legs of the Ottery defence didn’t deal with a ball, it bounced around in the box and the Okehampton striker got a toe to the ball which crept passed dale in goal. They had grabbed a late winner. When the full time whistle went the Ottery boys fell to the floor devastated and exhausted. They couldn’t have given anymore. It was a great game and every player on that pitch put in everything they had. They need to pick themselves up for a return match down in Okehampton next week where they are all eager for revenge.
Report James Hudson Ottery St Mary 0 – 3 Exmouth Juniors
The Ottery lads turned up on Sunday in high spirits after their 6-0 victory against Colyton U15’s the previous week, but they new they were in for a tough game. Exmouth were a team that were riding high in the league. Ottery were a bit slow to get started and conceded an early goal which caught the defence napping. It was a well taken goal but it could have been easily prevented. Ottery then started to play their football and came close twice. Sam Czeres firing just over the bar and Matt C-S bought a good save out of the Exmouth goal keeper. Whilst at the other end Dale In goal when called upon was making some excellent saves. The first half ended 1-0 to Exmouth but Ottery were far from out of this game. They were putting Exmouth under lots of pressure. Straight after half time once again Ottery mad a silly mistake and Exmouth’s Striker got a toe onto a cross which looped over Dale’s head. Ottery had further chances to score but when Dale, for the first time miss calculated, caught the ball outside the box which resulted in a free kick. Exmouth’s striker struck the ball in to the corner. The match after this point started to die. Ottery had a few long range shots but nothing that really bothered Exmouth’s goal keeper. Once again it was a story of silly mistakes and missed chances.

Report: James Hudson Presidents Cup Under 16
Axminster Town 1 0 Ottery St. Mary
It was a wet and windy afternoon on Sunday the 28th of October but Ottery Under 16’s were in high spirits after showing increasing improvements in recent games. The lads were well up for the game and this showed in the warm up. They were switched on and ready to go from the word go. The referee’s whistle went for the start of the game and Ottery were all over Axminster, they didn’t know what hit them. Ottery had a number of good chances to open the scoring with Glen coming close twice one with his right foot and one with his left. Then came sam’s chance who blazed one over the bar. Matt had a strike from midfield which Axminster’s goal keeper saved. Ottery were playing good passing football in difficult conditions. More chance came and went for Ottery. Then right on half time Axminster won themselves a corner from their first attack of the game. The ball came across, Axminster’s striker swang at the ball and completely missed it, the ball then bounced up and struck Ottery’s captain’s arm. The referee pointed to the spot. Dale made a brave attempt to save the penalty and came close but the power of the shot was too much for Dale and it was 1-0. Then the referee blew for half time. Ottery were more determined than ever. It was their game and they continued the pressure on Axminster. Sam one on one shot straight at the keeper, he hit another one wide. Ottery were raining in shots but they couldn’t find the back of the net. As Ottery pushed for an equaliser Axminster broke and their striker came one on one with Dale who pulled out an amazing double save. He saved the first shot then was back on his feet to save the second to give Ottery that little bit of hope. But it wasn’t Ottery’s day. In the changing room after the game the lads were left dismayed at what they had to do to score and how they didn’t win the game.
14 October Report: James Hudson Ottery St Mary 1 Seaton 3 After a week off, Ottery welcomed the league leaders to Washbrook Meadows. Ottery played some great football in the first half, but once again were made to pay for not taking their chances and Seaton drew first blood. But Ottery kept at it and carried on playing their football. It was a physical game and Ottery were giving as good as they got and just before half time Ottery got an equaliser, which they justly deserved. It was a 35 yard screamer from the centre of midfield. Ottery sensed they had Seaton rattled. After half time they came out all guns blazing but Seaton’s striker scored a sweet volley from the edge of the box, which Ottery’s keeper felt he could have done better with. Then came a massive turning point. Ottery changed to a more attaking formation in search of the equaliser. Ottery’s striker chased a through ball but it was out of his reach and the Seaton keeper simply claimed the ball but as Ottery’s strike ran around the keeper, he kicked Ottery’s striker in the leg for no apparent reason. Surely the referee had to do something, but he didn’t, he let play continue. The striker had to go to hospital where they found he had strained his lateral and medial ligaments in his knee. As Ottery pushed for the equaliser, Seatons’s pacey striker broke to score their third just on the final whistle. It was a great match and the Ottery lads had to be proud of their performance. It just shows that they are improving all the time and that their confidence as a team is constantly growing.
30th September Report James Hudson Axminster 3 Ottery St Mary 0 It was the second game of the season and Ottery had a lot prove after their drubbing at the hands of Colyton. Ottery had a few players back and they started off well. They were playing some good football and they were getting stuck into Axmister, Ottery came close to scoring with a shot that went narrowly wide. Then a long ball over the top by Axmister caused trouble for Ottery’e defence and it was 1-0. But Ottery kept trying to play their football but found it hard to support the striker and just before half time Axminster made it 2-0 with a free kick from about 25 yards. It was reliving the Ronaldinhio goal against Seaman in the World Cup, which Dale held his hands up for it being his fault. In the second half Ottery kept knocking the ball around and after James had changed the formation Ottery were creating more chances. The closes they came was hitting the underside of the crossbar from around 20 yards. As Ottery pushed for a goal to get back into the game Axmister broke and scored a third to seal the game. The lads showed a vast improvement to last week and can take a lot of positives from this game
Sunday 23 September Report: James Hudson (Manager) Coliton 12 Ottery St Mary 0 It was Sunday 23rd of September and opening day of the season. The boys had been working hard in preseason and everyone was optimistic. It was a horrible day. The rain was lashing down and the wind was swirling, and to make things worse Ottery were missing several players. Colyton were a big and powerful side and had obviously been playing as a team for a long time and it wasn’t long before they scored the first goal. There level of football was a different level and it was like they had 5 extra players on the pitch. The striker was on scintillating form, he was scoring for fun and creating goals. The Ottery lads tried to get stuck in but it was like men v boys. Dale in goal made some outstanding saves but he couldn’t do anything about the gaols. Ottery finished with 10 players on the pitch due to 4 of the lads picking up injuries and not being able to continue. A match better best forgotten.
